VIDEO: Man Utd youngster Gomes scores stunning free-kick

Despite the disappointing performances of the senior side, England's youth teams continue to impress at major tournaments.

Everton forward Dominic Calvert-Lewin scored the winner for the Under-20s as they won the World Cup over the summer while the Under-19s won the European Championship.

Aidy Boothroyd's Under-21s reached the semi-finals of their own continental competition, and now the Under-17s are looking to continue the success at their own World Cup in India.

The Young Lions kicked off their campaign against Chile, and Manchester United forward Angel Gomes helped ensure they got off to a winning start.

The 17-year-old curled in a stunning free-kick from 20 yards as they ran out easy 4-0 winners over the South American side.

And, while Gomes's goal was a highlight, the real star of the show was former Manchester City winger Jadon Sancho.

The teenager scored two goals of his own, as well as laying on the opener for Chelsea's Callum Hudson-Odoi.

Sancho left City during the summer to join Borussia Dortmund in a deal that could be worth up to £8 million.

He was handed the No.7 shirt vacated by Ousmane Dembele at the Bundesliga leaders and made the substitutes' bench for last month's win over Augsburg.

Reports suggest he will be recalled by Dortmund once the group stage of the World Cup is completed, though England will likely ask to keep him with the squad should they progress to the knockout stages.
