Torres vows to return soon and reassures fans head injury was 'just a scare'

Fernando Torres has reassured supporters that his nasty head injury sustained during Atletico Madrid's 1-1 draw with Deportivo was "just a scare" and vowed that he'll be back soon.

The Spanish forward had to be rushed to hospital after a sickening clash of heads and fall that saw him smash into the ground with considerable force.

Torres was left stricken on the turf as team-mates and medical staff attended to him, with Diego Simeone having insisted he "heard a crack" from the dugout area.

Atleti later confirmed that the player would spend the night in hospital, while a further, more positive, update revealed that Torres was "stable and conscious".

And the former Chelsea and Liverpool star has now taken to social media to reassure fans, thanking them for the messages of support.

He tweeted: "Thank you all so much for caring for me and for your messages of encouragement. It was just a scare. I hope to return very soon!"

Both of Torres' previous Premier League clubs posted the 32-year-old messages following the horrific incident, with the likes of Romelu Lukaku, Cesc Fabregas and Didier Drogba also posting on social media.

Simeone 'heard a crack' from dugout

Real Madrid duo Sergio Ramos and Alvaro Morata, who featured in their side's 3-3 draw with Villarreal on Wednesday, also passed on their well-wishes to Torres.
