‘I think I’ve copped at The Kop here’ - for lifelong Liverpool supporter Jo, the Reds’ historic Anfield home will forever hold a special place in her heart - after all, it’s where she met her husband, and where he proposed!
“You used to have to queue for tickets. We were in the queue for about two and a half hours and I thought, ‘I’m sure he’s flirting with me,” Jo told Paddy McGuinness, who’s currently hosting a Team Behind The Team series in partnership with AXA.
“[Years later] he actually tricked me into coming back here, and that’s where he proposed.”
Liverpool have played a major role in the couple’s life ever since, with the initials of their three children’s names even making up the word Red.
Jo and her family’s story is one of countless on the Mersey whose support has driven the Reds to their incredible success over the years.
“They inspire you, they support you, even if you’re not doing well,” said club legend John Barnes, who surprised Jo at Anfield to pass on the thanks of LFC players both past and present.
“It’s like they were sucking the ball into the net. When you talk about a ‘twelfth man’, it’s more like a thirteenth or fourteenth.”
