Tigres winger Jurgen Damm is urging others to not play with fireworks and has provided a photo to show just how serious someone could be injured as a result.
Damm will miss the opening two weeks of Liga MX's 2018 Clausura after suffering first-degree burns to his face during the New Year's incident. He sent the message through journalist Pello Maldonado that was posted on Twitter along with a photo of his injuries.
"First of all I want to thank God because it really was a miracle that all this wasn't even worse. Hopefully, what has happened to me will help so we all learn that fireworks don't bring anything good in our lives," the Mexico international said in the post.
"Sadly, I've learned the hard way, but I honestly hope that this message serves so that you don't go through something like this. Thanks to everyone that has shown me their support."
Tigres announced Tuesday that Damm will miss the first two weeks of the upcoming season, with the reigning champions set to take on Puebla in the opener on Friday.
Damm has played a role in three championships for Tigres since he joined the club in 2015. He is also a regular on the Mexico national team and is expected to be part of the roster for the 2018 World Cup in Russia.
