UEFA confirm game resumption

<p>Breaking news from Denmark's FA: the game will resume tonight, following discussions between UEFA and both nations, following confirmation that Christian Eriksen is stable.</p> <p>"Christian Eriksen is awake and his condition remains stable," reads their official statement.&nbsp;"He remains hospitalised for further examinations. The match against Finland will be played tonight.</p> <p>"This happens after the players have been confirmed that Christian is okay. The match resumes at 20.30."</p>

<p>Team news is poised to drop shortly for the other game in Group B this evening, as Euro 2020 favourites Belgium make the trip east to face 2018 World Cup hosts Russia in&nbsp;Saint Petersburg.</p> <p>Questions surely remain whether that match will go ahead as planned tonight, given the events that have transpired in Copenhagen today.</p> <p>We are still awaiting further updates from UEFA on the status of this match.</p>

<p>With their Group D clash scheduled to headline tomorrow's order of play at Euro 2020, England boss Gareth Southgate and captain Harry Kane were due to hold press briefings this evening ahead of their game at Wembley.</p> <p>That conference will no longer take place now. Kane, of course, is a former teammate of Christian Eriksen.</p>

<p>Christian Eriksen is awake, according to a further statement from Denmark's FA.</p> <p>"Christian Eriksen is awake and will undergo&nbsp;further examinations at hospital," confirm the governing body.&nbsp;"The match is temporarily postponed. Further information will come at 19.45."</p>

<p>Christian Eriksen is in a stable condition in hospital, per UEFA's below statement.</p> <p>The governing body has also indicated that they will hold crisis discussions with both Denmark and Finland before a further announcement is made in just over an hour at 1945, Central European Time.</p>

<p>Kasper Schmeichel and&nbsp;Simon Kjaer have both moved away from the group, to speak to what appears to be a family member of Christian Eriksen.</p> <p>The crowd in Copenhagen has roared itself hoarse in support of the Inter player. He remains surrounded by medical staff, who are attempting to&nbsp;resuscitate him.</p>

Broadcast cameras are no longer cutting to the tightly-formed circle of players around their teammate. Referee Anthony Taylor is in intense conversation with both coaches.

Play remains suspended

The game remains at a standstill, as medics continue to administer attention to Christian Eriksen. His teammates have formed a shield around him and the staff.

<p>Play has screeched to a halt and with very good reason - Christian Eriksen, practically untouched, has just dropped to the ground out of nowhere.</p> <p>Referee Anthony Taylor immediately blows the whistle and brings proceedings to a halt. Denmark and Finland's players come to a pause and medics are immediately called onto the pitch.</p>

<p>This is a Denmark side that held their own - and indeed delivered shocks - against England last year and Germany only a few months ago, but they haven't quite locked into place in this one.</p> <p>Make no mistake, they are the superior side in terms of crafting chances so far, but Finland are finding a touch of comfort on the ball so far.</p>

<p>Now we've got another injury stoppage, this time for&nbsp;O'Shaughnessy after he takes a blow to the face dealing with a Denmark corner.</p> <p>It looks like he'll be fine to continue, after his nose has been plugged to stop the steady stream of claret running onto his lip.</p> <p>Teemu Pukki looks to have taken some running repairs for a similar issue too.</p>

<p>An injury worry for Finland now, as&nbsp;Joakim Maehle sticks a ball in towards the right post, where&nbsp;Hradecky collects and smacks into his own defender&nbsp;Jere Uronen in one fell swoop.</p> <p>The latter comes off worse and needs some treatment, but seems fine to continue after a pause in play.</p> <p>No goals at the half-hour mark.</p>

Concerns for Eagle-owls

<p>Only O'Shaughnessy has had more touches for Finland than goalkeeper Hradecky so far, which is something of a concern for the visitors.</p> <p>But the latter has, that early bobble aside, been steady enough to keep Denmark at bay. Can he keep that up for the next hour and a bit?</p>

<p>Thomas Delaney hoofs a left-footed half-volley over the crossbar from 10 yards or so out, after a deflected corner fell at his feet.</p> <p>Delaney and&nbsp;O'Shaughnessy. They may not be here physically, but Ireland certainly is expanding its spiritual roots over the player pool at Euro 2020. (The former owes his name to his great-grandfather, an immigrant to America, for those who are curious.)</p> <p>Finland are holding pretty steady so far. In a way, it is like a slightly more lopsided version of the opening act we just saw between Wales and Switzerland.</p>

Denmark remain hunting for opener

<p>Lukas&nbsp;Hradecky, add another stop to your collection for the day.</p> <p>This is a dangerous shot, flashed across the face of goal by&nbsp;Christian Eriksen,&nbsp;heading towards the left post, and the goalkeeper gets his palm out to force it onwards towards empty space on the far side of his box.</p> <p>The Inter man is less than pleased with his finish there, but all credit to the man who denies him.</p>

Hradecky rides out once more.

<p>Finland haven't spent the whole game locked in around their own penalty area and snap up a free-kick following a foul from Andreas&nbsp;Christensen after they orchestrated a half-break into opposition territory.</p> <p>It comes to very little however - and Denmark are promptly knocking on the door down the other end, with&nbsp;Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg smacking a header just over the crossbar.</p> <p>A roar of approval from the crowd. It's been a cagey opening - but then, these first matches so often are in tournament football.</p>

<p>Jonas Wind launches the first shot of the game - and it is a cracker of a stop from&nbsp;Hradecky!</p> <p>The&nbsp;Copenhagen youngster - son of twice-capped Denmark goalkeeper Per Wind - tried his luck with a relative long-range effort there and the goalkeeper made a fine, low save to keep him hunting.</p> <p>Five at the back from Finland today tells you all you need to know about their approach - this is to be a defensive battle of attrition for them.</p>

Wind blows forth for hosts

<p>A corner for the hosts allows Denmark to immediately put some pressure on their visitors though, and goalkeeper Lukas&nbsp;Hradecky almost bobbles the delivery in at his near left post.</p> <p>Finland are less than happy with the pressure he was placed under there - several opposing players very much boxed him in - but he's come through his first test unscathed.</p> <p>They've already picked up a yellow card too, the visitors - Robin Lod has been booked for a challenge on&nbsp;Martin Braithwaite in the build-up to that spell of pressure.</p>

Denmark dart in on Hradecky

<p>Daniel O'Shaughnessy - who may sound Irish but was born and bred in&nbsp;Riihimaki - has a surprise early chance to help put Denmark under pressure, spearing a long throw into the hosts' box.</p> <p>It is dealt with easily enough, and Eriksen makes sure that it is spirited back downfield before it can cause them any real danger.</p>

<p>Anthony Taylor blows that whistle and Finland's first-ever appearance at a major tournament is underway against Denmark in Group B!</p> <p>The visitors are quite a conservative side, likely to try long balls as their go-forward approach - so don't be surprised if too much of this game is spent camped in their half.</p> <p>The roar of the crowd here is glorious. There looks to be more in than there were in Baku at a brief glance, and the noise is particularly fantastic.</p>

<p><em>We're Going to Ibiza</em> or&nbsp;<em>Boom, Boom, Boom, Boom</em>?
