'I wouldn't mind seeing Grealish in a Man Utd shirt' - Robson expresses admiration towards 'terrific' Aston Villa star

Bryan Robson has expressed his admiration towards Jack Grealish, while admitting that he "wouldn't mind" seeing the "terrific" Aston Villa star in a Manchester United shirt.

Grealish was heavily linked with a move to Old Trafford after a stellar 2019-20 campaign at Villa Park.

The 25-year-old almost single-handedly kept Villa in the Premier League, with one of his eight Premier League goals coming in a crucial final-day draw against West Ham.

He has managed to take his game to even greater heights in the first half of Villa's latest campaign, inspiring the team's unlikely bid for a European spot.

Grealish has contributed five goals and seven assists in his first 15 outings for Dean Smith's men this term, earning a regular spot in Gareth Southgate's England squad in the process.

United ultimately passed up the chance to bring in the playmaker last summer, but they continue to be linked with his services and Ole Gunnar Solskjaer singled him out for praise before a home fixture with Villa in December.

"He’s a player for Aston Villa and England who has only improved. I don’t want to say too much about other teams’ players but of course, he’s a player we know we have to look for," said the Norwegian boss.

Robson thinks Grealish has reached a new level since being trusted with the captain's armband at Villa, and has admitted that he would welcome the prospect of the playmaker completing a move to Manchester in the near future.

"It was a good decision giving him [Jack Grealish] the [Aston Villa] captaincy. I think it's made him a bit more mature," said the United legend.

"He's a powerful player. He's quite a strong boy and he's quick and the way he can sort of go either way past people he's always going to be a danger and that's why he gets so many free kicks.

"Him and Villa have been terrific this season. He's been linked with us but those decisions, thank goodness, are with Ole and the board of directors.

"I wouldn't mind seeing Jack Grealish in a Manchester United shirt. But I don't know whether the staff at Old Trafford fancy him, as much as you'd like to see him playing for your club."

Grealish will be back in contention for a place in Smith's line-up when Villa take in a midweek trip to Manchester City, while the Red Devils will also be in action on Wednesday as they come up against Fulham at Craven Cottage.
