How will England line up against Tunisia?

Expectations might be limited when it comes to England's potential results at the 2018 World Cup, but with the tournament under way there is certainly a feeling of excitement surrounding the Three Lions.

Gareth Southgate has assembled an inexperienced squad for the tournament in Russia, with the hope that they can succeed here and use the experiences to potentially challenge for major trophies over the next decade.

However, with the likes of Harry Kane, Raheem Sterling and Marcus Rashford in the squad, England have players who can make a difference at the very highest level, and as such many onlookers from elsewhere have noted them as potential dark horses to win the competition for the first time since 1966.

They begin their campaign in Volgograd against Tunisia having been drawn in Group G, and after friendly wins over Nigeria and Costa Rica prior to the tournament Southgate has had a number of selection headaches to deal with.

But having made his players aware of the starting line-up some days ago, the former Middlesbrough manager is now ready to take charge of his match in tournament football.

Jordan Pickford will start in goal for the Three Lions, with Southgate keen to utilise his excellent distribution as an attacking weapon throughout the tournament.

England will start with a three-man defence, with Manchester City's John Stones at the heart of the trio. The ex-Everton centre-back has been a regular under Southgate despite falling down the pecking order at the Etihad Stadium, with his ability on the ball setting him apart from his compatriots in the same position.

To Stones' right will be City club-mate Kyle Walker, who has successfully managed the transition into a more central role despite thriving as either an orthodox full-back or wing-back in club football over the last few years.

On the left Harry Maguire looks set to beat out Gary Cahill to a starting spot, with Southgate opting for the Leicester City man as he expects his side to enjoy plenty of possession on Monday evening.

Kieran Trippier will start as right wing-back in Southgate's 3-5-2 system, with Ashley Young being preferred to Danny Rose on the left despite being naturally right-footed. The Manchester United man's ability from dead balls and crossing from open play proved to be the difference between the pair in the end.

One of the other major decisions Southgate needed to make was at the heart of his midfield between Jordan Henderson and Eric Dier, with the Liverpool captain set to win the battle due to him being able to contribute a little more in attack.

He will be flanked by the energy of Jesse Lingard and the technical skill of Dele Alli, with the pair tasked with creating opportunities for those ahead of them

In those positions will be Raheem Sterling - who keeps his place despite Rashford's impressive showing against Costa Rica - and captain Harry Kane, who is aiming to add the World Cup Golden Boot to his collection of personal prizes.
