FIFA Under-17 World Cup: India vs Mauritius friendly postponed due to heavy rainfall

The India Under-17 squad's friendly tie against their Mauritius counterparts has been postponed to 9:00 am on Thursday owing to a heavy downpour at the Nagoa Village Panchayat Sports Complex.

The Indian squad, led by head coach Luis Norton had to make do with a light gym session as training was completely called-off due to the harsh conditions.

The match was slated for kick-off at 4:30 pm on Wednesday but excessive water logging on the pitch meant that neither a match nor training could take place.

Head coach Norton, accompanied by team COO Abhishek Yadav and team manager Velu Dhayalamani visited the ground two-hours prior to kick-off to review the conditions. The entire coastal state of Goa has been lashed with heavy rains since the past few days and should the conditions be favorable, the friendly tie should go ahead at 09:00 IST on Thursday.

In lieu of the last-minute change in plans, the Indian team management decided to make the best of what was at hand by holding a light gym and tactical session for the boys ahead of tomorrow's clash.

The situation for tomorrow too though does not look bright at the moment. As per weather forecasts, the heavy rainfall is expected to be a constant till the weekend.

The India Under-17 squad is expected to complete their training camp in Goa on September 24 and the tie with Mauritius is expected to be the final friendly the team plays here. As of now, no more friendlies have been scheduled for the future but Goal shall keep the readers updated if that situation does change in the future.
