EXTRA TIME: Excited kid meets Nwankwo Kanu after successful heart surgery

It was a moment of joy as African legend Nwankwo Kanu was greeted with a warm welcome by a child who benefitted from a heart surgery paid for by his heart foundation.

Since 2000, Kanu has been helping Nigerian children battling cardiac disease with life-saving surgeries within and outside the country, through his non-governmental organisation.

Kanu Heart Foundation has successfully helped 538 children get open heart surgeries in hospitals across the world.

Last year, Kanu hosted a charity football game at Hive Stadium between Premier League and African football stars, which raised over £50,000.

The returns from the game, which featured Lauren, Sol Campbell, Eric Djemba Djemba amongst other African stars in attendance, have been used to sponsor nine successful surgeries on children across Africa, while 11 more operations are pending.

One of the nine children who had undergone his surgery could not hide his excitement and gratitude when he saw Kanu in his hospital room.
