Barcelona boss Xavi gushes over 'priceless' Ilkay Gundogan after former Man City midfielder's impactful start to the season

Barcelona manager Xavi has hailed Ilkay Gundogan's impact following the centre-midfielder's impressive start to life in Catalonia.

WHAT HAPPENED? The Germany international has started nine of a possible 10 league matches, playing in various positions across Xavi's midfield. Although he is yet to find the scoresheet for the Blaugrana, he has chipped in with two assists. And his manager insisted that Gundogan is a key part of his team.

WHAT THEY SAID: "He is having a very good start to the season. How he has adapted, his leadership, he gives us 'pausa', peace of mind, all the balls that pass through him, they improve… he is a priceless footballer. He gives peace of mind, tempo," the manager said at a press conference.

THE BIGGER PICTURE: Barca signed Gundogan on a free transfer from Man City before the start of the season, handing the 33-year-old a two-year contract.
