- Usually a star player for Arsenal
- Has been dropped in recent weeks
- Will take a leave of absence
WHAT HAPPENED? The Gunners have allowed Miedema a period of time away from football to rest, so she has left the UK and will miss the Women’s Super League game against Leicester on Sunday. She will not feature in the upcoming international break either as Holland take on Costa Rica and Denmark.
WHAT THEY SAID: As reported in The Athletic, Arsenal explained: “Viv has been granted some time off to rest and recharge. We are supporting her closely and she will return following the international break.”
Netherlands coach Andries Jonker added: "Just like in October, we looked again at the individual situations of players. In consultation with the players and their club, Vivianne and Jill [Roord] have decided not to call up."
THE BIGGER PICTURE: Usually the bright light in the Arsenal team, Miedema has struggled to be at her best this season. In nine appearances across all competitions, she has just three goals, with Frida Maanum's fine form even seeing her drop to the bench at times.
