The English Football League (EFL) will soon meet to discuss the international rights deal for the next four years and, depending on their decision, the next contract could have massive implications for the 72 teams across the three divisions. Wrexham say they would be open to making matches free to watch for fans outside of England, even though it would affect their profits.

WHAT HAPPENED?

The club's director of football Shaun Harvey told <a href="https://worldsoccertalk.com/news/wrexham-open-to-making-its-games-free-in-usa-in-new-efl-deal-20240122-WST-478327.html" target="_blank">World Soccer Talk</a>: "I personally would love to see Wrexham games free-to-air in the U.S. every single week. Whilst that could have a significant financial negative impact on our P&amp;L (profit and loss statement), actually as long as it’s readily available and easily accessible, we’d probably take our chance that we would generate more by creating a bigger fan base than we would on revenue from individual subscribers."

WHAT WREXHAM SAID

Wrexham's popularity has exploded since <a href="https://www.goal.com/en-gb/lists/why-ryan-reynolds-rob-mcelhenney-spend-more-january-wrexham-transfer-business-counter-unfortunate-trend/blt974d78abb7c228ba" target="_blank">Hollywood stars Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney</a> purchased the club in 2020. Thanks to the presence of the actors and the popular documentary series Welcome to Wrexham, they have attracted a huge number of fans across the world and have developed partnerships with global companies such as TikTok, United Airlines, VistaPrint and HP.

THE BIGGER PICTURE

After earning promotion from the National League last season, the Red Dragons are aiming to make it another successful year as they battle for the League Two title. They currently sit second in the table and <a href="https://www.goal.com/en-gb/lists/phil-parkinson-will-boyle-wrexham-stars-after-fifth-red-card-of-season-as-he-backs-down-following-angry-touchline-ref-rant/bltd00c70e728011268" target="_blank">just two points behind leaders Stockport County.</a>
