According to <a href="https://www.thesun.co.uk/sport/29807611/everton-third-point-deduction-new-claim-exclusive/" target="_blank">The Sun</a>, the Toffees are alleged to have breached Profit and Sustainability Rules by an extra £6.5m in 2022/23. They have already been docked points for going £16m ($20m) over the limit in the same season, losing two points, and this discovery could lead to a further deduction.

WHAT HAPPENED?

As a result of their overspending in 21/22, <a href="https://www.goal.com/en-gb/lists/everton-deducted-10-points-toffees-premier-league-relegation-zone-punishment-profitability-sustainability-rules-breach/blt57b3f269d5827b76" target="_blank">they were docked 10 points</a> although that sanction was reduced to six on appeal. While an investigation has been opened into this latest potential breach, neither the league nor Everton are aware of when a verdict will be returned.

The league believe the £6.5m should be added to Everton's spending, while the Toffees do not believe it should be considered because they are stadium costs. Their decision to contest the investigation could lead to a harsher penalty if they are deemed to have broken the rules.
