Women's football has been plagued by anterior cruciate ligament injuries, with some of the biggest names in the game being ruled out for long periods and requiring knee surgery. Arsenal stars and partners Mead and Miedema are two players who have battled their way back to fitness after sustaining ACL tears and feature in a new documentary. The film also looks into why this particular injury is so prevalent in women's football.

Mead said: "We will keep going until they listen. There have been a lot of theses injuries recently. Why?"

WHAT BETH MEAD SAID:

Initial football-focused research into ACL problems has shown that female players are six times more likely to suffer these types of injuries compared to men. Female players are also 25 per cent less likely to return after recovery, according to <a href="https://www.skysports.com/football/news/11095/12926431/future-of-football-why-acl-injuries-have-been-on-rise-in-womens-game-and-the-technology-and-solutions-to-fix-it" target="_blank">Sky Sports</a>. It is hoped that further research can help understand why the injuries have become so prevalent in the women's game and help to reduce the amount of players being sidelined with such severe knee issues in the future.

Mead and Miedema will both be hoping that their injury problems are now in the past and that they can get back on track after lengthy lay-offs.
