<p>Ribery was not having that, having seen his claims to the Ballon d’Or in 2013 - after winning five trophies at Bayern Munich, including the European Cup - overlooked in favour of free-scoring superstars Ronaldo and Lionel Messi.</p><p>Ribery posted on social media in <a href="https://www.goal.com/en/lists/cristiano-ronaldo-franck-ribery-questions-cr7-ballon-d-or-comments-ex-bayern-munich-wingerl-salty-2013-snub/blt31d548e27d48336d" target="_blank">response to Ronaldo’s claim that continental glory should be a determining factor</a> in any vote: “So you NEED to win the Champions League to win the Ballon d'Or?” He accompanied said post with three laughing emojis.</p><p></p>

<p>Given how <a href="https://www.goal.com/en/lists/president-cristiano-ronaldo-cr7-told-would-win-vote-portugal-al-nassr-superstar-goalscoring-politics/blt4d792f9a2a19dbc6" target="_blank">loyal Ronaldo supporters are - especially those in his native Portugal</a> - Ribery will have been expecting a backlash. He got one when attending the UEFA Nations League at the Allianz Arena in Munich.</p>
