Fernandez only required a two step run-up to beat compatriot Emiliano Martinez from long range. But the execution was not as cold as when La Pulga did it - largely because Fernandez was soon mobbed by his fellow Blues. Team-mate Nicolas Jackson even started kissing his No.8 jersey in ecstacy.

WATCH THE CLIP

The strike surely put the FA Cup fourth-round replay beyond Villa, with the result set to relieve some of the pressure on under-fire Chelsea boss Mauricio Pochettino. The Blues were well beaten in each of their last two Premier League games against Liverpool and Wolves, with the wife of veteran defender Thiago Silva seemingly calling for the Argentine to be sacked in the wake of that latter defeat.

After beating Villa, things suddenly don't look so bleak for Pochettino and Chelsea. Provided they hold on and beat Unai Emery's side, they will face Leeds in the <a href="https://www.goal.com/en-gb/news/fa-cup-2023-24-draw-fixtures/blt8b83d5e532feb379" target="_blank">fifth round of the FA Cup</a>, while they also have a Carabao Cup date with Liverpool to relish later this month.
