USMNT striker Jordan Pefok suffers racial abuse on social media following Borussia Monchengladbach loss to Saarbrucken

Third-tier side Saarbrucken <a href="https://www.goal.com/en-us/lists/germany-third-tier-saarbrucken-harry-kane-bayern-munich-dfb-pokal-semi-finals-borussia-monchengladbach/bltcfd7c59f46f7a7c6" target="_blank">knocked Gladbach and Pefok out of the DFB Pokal</a> with a stoppage-time winner to advance to the semifinals of the tournament. After the thrilling match, however, Pefok was racially abused on social media platform Instagram.

WHAT HAPPENED?

WHAT GLADBACH SAID

On his Instagram story, Pefok has posted over 15 times sharing messages of support he has received from players, fans and media personalities across the world's game. Ex-Union Berlin teammate Sheraldo Becker posted a message of support his way, as did Gladbach teammate Julian Weigl.

THE BIGGER PICTURE

Gladbach take on FC Heidenheim this weekend in Bundesliga action. Pefok and co. will look to end the week on a high note before the international break. The 27-year-old, however, will not feature with the USA after missing out on their <a href="https://www.goal.com/en-us/lists/usmnt-gio-reyna-tyler-adams-nations-league/blt797d338335d91664" target="_blank">23-man Nations League roster.</a>
