The US endured a discouraging final contest before <a href="https://www.goal.com/en-us/lists/usmnt-olympic-squad-group-stage-guinea-gianluca-busio-paris-glory/blt20a3c02defcc146b" target="_blank">Olympic play starts</a>, and didn't put up much of a fight against their visitors. A group consisting largely of U-23 players didn't manage a shot on target in an underwhelming loss on American soil.

WHAT HAPPENED?

The nation is yet to win an Olympic medal on the men's side.

THE BIGGER PICTURE

US head coach Mark Mitrovic lamented his team's poor showing after the game, saying: "Since we started this process eight months ago, this was, I would say, the lowest performance by far that we had. I strongly believe that this group can do much better than they showed today."

The US is out of time to prepare for the tournament. Rosters are due to be finalized in early July, and they will have to find some sort of form ahead of their opener against favourites France on July 24.
