FC Groningen

Hans van Breukelen joined PSV from Nottingham Forest in 1984.Between 1984 and 1994, Van Breukelen made 393 appearances for PSV, winning a host of trophies including six Eredivisie titles, two KNVB Cups, a Dutch Super Cup and a European Cup in the 1987-88 season.He was also part of the Netherlands national team which won the Euro Championship in 1988, making him a shoo-in between the poles.Two other goalkeepers deserve a mention here. First is Jan van Beveren. The shot-stopper joined PSV in 1970 and went on to make 290 appearances for the club, winning six trophies.Second is Heurelho Gomes. Before we heard his name regularly in his stint at Tottenham Hotspur, Gomes was at PSV where he made 128 appearances between 2004 and 2008, winning five trophies including four Eredivisie titles.

GK: Hans van Breukelen

Belgian right-back Eric Gerets joined PSV from fellow Dutch club MVV in 1985.The defender went on to make 200 appearances for the club between 1985 and 1992, featuring in a team alongside superstars like Ruud Gullit, Frank Arnesen, Huub Stevens, Willy van de Kerkhof and Brazilian star Romario.After winning the league title with PSV in 1986, Gullit left the club and it was Gerets who went on to captain the team. He won six league titles, three KNVB Cups and a European Cup with PSV.Sjef van Run is another right-back revered among the PSV faithful. The Dutchman played 359 games for PSV between 1926 and 1942

RB: Eric Gerets

Ernie Brandts arrived at PSV as a 21-year-old in 1977.The defender won two Eredivisie titles and a Uefa Cup with the club in his seven-year stay.The Dutchman, who also had 28 caps for his country, made 251 appearances for PSV, scoring 23 goals.Brazilian defender Alex is another player who could slot into this position. Known for his physical strength and the power of his shot, which has gained him the nicknames of "The Tank", Alex joined Chelsea from Santos in 2004.The Blues decided to loan the defender to PSV between 2004 and 2007. During his loan spell with the club, Alex made 84 appearances and scored 11 goals. Alex won three Eredivisie titles and a KNVB Cup with PSV.

CB: Ernie Brandts

One of the greatest goalscoring centre-backs in history, Ronald Koeman arrived at PSV from rivals Ajax in 1986.It was at PSV that Koeman realised his goalscoring prowess despite being a defender. He scored 51 goals in just 98 games for PSV between 1986 and 1989.His performances saw him join Barcelona in 1989.Huub Stevens is another PSV great who should be credited here. He made 293 appearances for PSV between 1975 and 1986, winning the Eredivisie three times, a KNVB Cup and a Uefa Cup at the club.

CB: Ronald Koeman

Heintze made over 500 appearances for PSV during two separate spells.He is probably the most decorated player in PSV history, having won nine Eredivisie titles, three KNVB Cups, three Johan Cruyff Shields and one European Cup during his two stints at the club, first between 1982 and 1994, and the second between 1999 and 2003. Another left-back who is unlucky not to be selected is Jan Poortvliet.Poortvliet started his career at PSV in 1974 and until 1983, he made 264 appearances for the club, scoring 41 goals. He won three Eredivisie titles, two Dutch Cups and a Uefa Cup during his time with PSV.

LB: Jan Heintze

Mark van Bommel is actually worthy of being called "Mr. PSV".The Dutchman embodied the essence of being a PSV player. He enjoyed two spells in Eindhoven at different points in his career. The versatile midfielder won four league titles among other trophies with them.Van Bommel started off with PSV in 1995, making 169 appearances and scoring 49 goals before Barcelona signed him in 2005. After a season at Camp Nou, Bayern Munich brought him to Germany in 2006 and he went on to play 123 games for them until 2011.He then joined Milan before completing full circle and returning to PSV for a season and retiring in 2013.Arjen Robben deserves a mention here. While the Dutchman attained greatness at Bayern Munich later in his career, Robben showed glimpses of genius during his time at PSV. He joined the club from Groningen in 2002 and made 56 appearances for the club until 2004 during which he scored 17 goals before Chelsea signed him.Rene van de Kerkhof is another PSV legend who could be a great shout for this position. The right-sided winger was versatile in any position on the right side of the field. He made 278 appearances for PSV, scoring 85 goals, and winning three Eredivisie titles and two KNVB Cups.

RM: Mark van Bommel

Born and raised in Eindhoven, Phillip Cocu enjoyed two stints at PSV.His first spell started when he joined in 1995 and went on to make 95 appearances, scoring 31 goals until 1998.Barcelona signed him in 1998 and Cocu went on to play close to 300 games for them until 2004, before returning to PSV.In his second spell, Cocu scored 23 goals in 94 games between 2004 and 2007.The combative midfielder won eight trophies with PSV, with four of them being the Eredivisie title.Cocu also managed PSV later in his career, leading them to three Eredivisie titles as coach.One superstar could give Cocu a run for his money in this lineup is Ruud Gullit.Gullit is one of the greatest Dutch footballers in history and he used PSV as a launchpad to achieve greater success in his career.He was also the most versatile footballer the game has ever seen and could virtually play anywhere in defence, midfield and attack. After joining from rivals Feyenoord in 1985, Gullit made 68 appearances for PSV and scored 46 goals, winning two Eredivisie titles in his two seasons at the club before leaving for Milan in 1987.

CM: Phillip Cocu

Predominantly a box-to-box midfielder, Willy van de Kerkhof was actually pretty versatile and played anywhere in PSV's midfield.The Dutchman played alongside his twin brother Rene at PSV for 10 years between 1973 and 1983. However, Willy's stint at the club went on until 1988.Willy made 418 appearances for PSV and scored 57 goals, winning six Eredivisie titles, a European Cup, a Uefa Cup and three KNVB Cups.Dutch star Gerald Vanenburg is a strong shout for this position too. The winger was very comfortable on either side of midfield on multiple occasions, he helped the team manage their switch of play. He arrived at PSV in 1986 after a successful spell at Ajax. Vanenburg helped PSV win the league title in his first season and a treble in his second season in 1987-88 which included the league title, the KNVB Cup and the European Cup, a feat that saw him win the Dutch Golden Boot award in 1988.Between 1986 and 1993, Vanenburg made 199 appearances for PSV and scored 48 goals.

LM: Willy van de Kerkhof

Despite his stint at PSV being limited to just two seasons, we can't possibly leave out one of the greatest strikers in the history of the game.Ronaldo arrived at the club in 1994 after the World Cup. While he didn't play a game for Brazil at that tournament, he came to the Netherlands and absolutely set Eredivisie on fire, scoring 42 goals in just 46 games until 1996.PSV have to thank Romario for as it was his suggestion that led to Ronaldo joining the Dutch side.After winning just a KNVB Cup in his two years at the club, Barcelona signed Ronaldo in 1996, where he stayed for one season before joining Inter for five years and then achieving legendary status at Real Madrid between 2002 and 2007.Another PSV striker Coen Dillen could be as much part of this dream team as Ronaldo is.Dillen is the greatest striker in the club's history, period!Nicknamed 'The Cannon', the Dutchman scored 287 goals in just 328 games for PSV between 1949 and 1961. His goal tally of 43 in the inaugural 1956/57 Eredivisie season remains the highest by an individual in the league's history.

RF: Ronaldo

It was a tough choice here, but we had to go with Ruud van Nistelrooy simply because of his goalscoring exploits at the club.Nistelrooy joined PSV from Heerenveen in 1998 and he scored 62 goals in just 67 appearances until 2001, when Manchester United signed him.He won back-to-back Eredivisie titles with PSV in 1999-2000 and 2000-2001.Wim Kieft, Romario and Mateja Kezman are three other strikers worthy of the spotlight here.Kieft enjoyed two separate and successful stints at PSV. His first stint was between 1987 and 1990 when he scored 55 goals in just 82 games, winning two back-to-back Eredivisie titles in 1987-88 and 1988-89, a European Cup in 1987-88 and three KNVB Cups. He joined Bordeaux in 1990 and after one rather underwhelming season in France, he returned to the Netherlands with PSV in 1991. He went on to score 34 goals in 88 games and won the 1991-92 league title before hanging up his boots in 1994.Branded as a "genius" by the great Johan Cruyff, Romario arrived in Europe and joined PSV in 1988. The Brazilian stayed at the club until 1993, scoring 98 goals in just 110 games, thus helping PSV win three Eredivisie titles, two KNVB Cups and a Dutch Super Cup.Serbian forward Kezman joined PSV from Partizan in 2000 and wreaked havoc in the Eredivisie in his four-year stint at the club. The striker scored 105 goals in just 122 games and won two Eredivisie titles before earning a move to Chelsea in the Premier League in 2004, where he won the league in his sole season.

CF: Ruud van Nistelrooy

With his statue standing strong at the main entrance of PSV's Philips Stadion, you just know what Willy van der Kuijlen means to this great Dutch club.Nicknamed "Mr. PSV", Van der Kuijlen is the greatest goalscorer in the club's history, with 308 goals in 528 games between 1964 and 1981.The striker was amazing with both feet, which enabled him to do certain incredible things on the pitch that very few footballers in his era could do. Be it a second striker's position or a lone forward, Van der Kuijlen was a force to be reckoned with.He won a Uefa Cup, three Eredivisie titles and two KNVB Cups at PSV.No one can touch Van der Kuijlen's legacy at PSV, however, it is only fair to give Luuk de Jong a shout here.The Dutch forward appeared for PSV between 2014 and 2019 in his first stint at the club, where he scored 94 goals in 159 games before joining Sevilla and later Barcelona on loan. He re-joined PSV in 2022.
