He is still highly respected as a coach, however, and could be lined up to replace Postecoglou - a move that would also save the Serie A club €15 million in compensation. </p>

<p>Tottenham have suffered a hugely underwhelming Premier League campaign, losing 16 of their 31 matches and sitting 14th in the table. Spurs' final chance of any success this season is in the Europa League, with their quarter-final first leg against Eintracht Frankfurt taking place on Thursday. </p>

<p>It seems only European success can realistically keep Postecoglou in a job, but stringing together some league wins to finish in the top half of the table may help. They have seven matches to bridge an eight-point gap and go to 17th-place Wolves on Sunday, with the two legs against Eintracht Frankfurt either side of that clash. </p>
