Tuchel may well be their man.

WHAT HAPPENED?

As early as February, Bayern had <a href="https://www.goal.com/en-gb/lists/thomas-tuchel-to-leave-bayern-munich-bundesliga-part-ways-german-coach-in-summer-xabi-alonso-jurgen-klopp/blt430d3ab11a804d03">decided to part ways with Tuchel</a> at the conclusion of the season. However, when their managerial search had taken them from Xabi Alonso to Ralf Rangnick to Julian Nagelsmann without success, the Bayern board <a href="https://www.goal.com/en/lists/bayern-thomas-tuchel-harry-kane-club-to-keep-him/blt9afe326ee9902c6a" target="_blank">tried to persuade Tuchel to remain at the club</a>. Yet again Bayern were unsuccessful and Tuchel turned down their offer. Bayern reportedly believe the reason for that rejection is because he had already decided to become the United boss.

Bayern's quest for a new coach appears to be almost over. The Bavarian giants are <a href="https://www.goal.com/en-gb/lists/burnley-bayern-munich-vincent-kompany-baffling-appointment-shambolic-search-thomas-tuchel-replacement/blt69ea5aeb5653c948" target="_blank">close to naming Vincent Kompany as Tuchel's successor</a> at the Allianz Arena. Most recently, Kompany was relegated with Burnley after finishing 19th in the Premier League with 24 points.
