Sir Jim Ratcliffe loses £6.5bn and quarter of total wealth one year on from Man Utd takeover as Old Trafford unrest continues

<p>The 72-year-old, who was once Britain's richest man, is said to have seen his fortune slip from £23.519bn ($31.2bn) to £17.046bn ($22.6bn) over the course of the last 12 months. That is according to the <a href="https://www.thetimes.com/sunday-times-rich-list/feature/article/richest-people-uk-2025-revealed-vnkmnlxgz " target="_blank"><em>Sunday Times Rich List</em></a>.</p>

WHAT HAPPENED?

<p><span></span>Ratcliffe now sits seventh on the list of the UK’s 350 richest people. He has cited the financial pressures on British petrochemical firm INEOS for that hit, but insists his involvement with Premier League giants United will not be impacted.</p>

THE GOSSIP

<p>INEOS Group <a href="https://www.goal.com/en-gb/lists/sir-jim-ratcliffe-increases-man-utd-stake-79m-deal-wont-boost-ruben-amorim-transfer-kitty-january-window/blt5154ce2992c1a73f" target="_blank">acquired a 27.7% stake in the Red Devils back in February 2024</a>, as part of an initial deal that was worth £1.25bn ($1.6bn). Ratcliffe and Co took control of football operations from the Glazer family.</p>

<p>Ratcliffe’s time at Old Trafford has been shrouded in controversy, with <a href="https://www.goal.com/en-gb/lists/paul-scholes-tears-into-sir-jim-ratcliffe-ineos-ridiculous-man-utd-ticket-price-hike-claims-part-owners-done-nothing-positive-since-minority-takeover/blt115d3293cb969fde" target="_blank">cost-cutting measures generating plenty of unfortunate headlines</a>. He has claimed that United would have "run of out cash by the end of this year" <a href="https://www.goal.com/en-gb/lists/you-take-1m-cut-man-utd-staff-rebel-ineos-ceo-omar-berrada-200-job-cuts/bltd459f4b4349bfdba" target="_blank">had "unpopular" decisions not been made</a>.</p>
