Rico spent <a href="https://www.goal.com/en-gb/news/psg-goalkeeper-sergio-rico-wakes-up-from-coma/blt34f5dee2683c37cc" target="_blank">26 days in a coma</a> after he was struck by a horse in May. The PSG goalkeeper underwent surgery for a brain aneurysm after suffering a blow to the neck after becoming dismounted from the horse. In a recent interview, he opened up on his experience and revealed his plans to return to action.

WHAT HAPPENED?

Rico told <a href="https://twitter.com/partidazocope/status/1735438382233260401" target="_blank">El Partidazo de COPE</a>: "I'm looking forward to the doctor giving me a little more freedom because I feel good. I want to go back to my routine and feel like a footballer again. I lost 20 kilos... I weighed about 92 and I stayed at 73. Now I weigh 88 kilos."I take it too calmly, it is not in my power. If it were in my power I would already be [back training]. I follow the orders of the doctors, who are in charge and those who have saved my life."

WHAT RICO SAID

Rico was involved in the accident while participating in an annual pilgrimage in the El Rocio region of Spain. The 30-year-old admitted that he initially found it 'difficult to speak' after waking from the coma. A medical report said that the former Sevilla and Fulham goalkeeper was '<a href="https://www.goal.com/en-gb/news/medical-report-reveals-psg-goalkeeper-sergio-rico-came-within-half-a-centimetre-of-death/bltab47ddbf61c1041b" target="_blank">half a centimetre</a>' from death.

THE BIGGER PICTURE

Rico will continue his recovery and is working to meet his target of <a href="https://www.goal.com/en-gb/news/sergio-rico-confirms-return-to-psg-recovering-from-accident-left-him-in-a-coma/bltc9320bdc75768439" target="_blank">returning to action this season</a>. If and when he does, he will likely act as Gianluigi Donnarumma's back-up.
