But despite his 36 goals, the last 12 months have not gone as he had imagined, especially with the European Championship, which was a disappointment for him personally. Back problems, very few ball contacts, being substituted as captain, the second final defeat in a row - things like that stick in your mind.”

WHAT MATTHAUS SAID

Matthaus added that Kane will be “looking forward to Bayern because he will be much more involved there than in the English national team's game”. He countered that slightly by saying: “The newness, the freshness of last year is gone for now, it will be more difficult for him. I don't think he will score 36 goals again.”
