Clubs are currently restricted to having eight foreign players in their squad, but <a href="https://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/football/article-12953023/Saudi-Arabia-set-increase-number-overseas-players-permitted-flight-prepare-target-worlds-best-young-talent-spending-staggering-700m-past-12-months.html" target="_blank">The Daily Mail</a> reports that the Saudi Arabian league will increase that figure to 10. The change in regulations will likely encourage clubs from the Middle East nation to continue their efforts to sign players from top teams across the world.

WHAT HAPPENED?

According to the report, Saudi clubs will likely use the new regulation to target the best young talents around the world. The likes of Al-Nassr, Al-Ittihad and Al-Hilal could attempt to pluck the most promising players from the youth academies of top teams in Europe and South America.

THE BIGGER PICTURE

Saudi Arabia has been able to lure some of the biggest names in football to the Middle East in recent seasons, with the likes of Cristiano Ronaldo, Karim Benzema, Neymar, Sadio Mane, N'Golo Kante and Roberto Firmino all signing for teams in the Saudi Pro League in recent transfer windows.

The Saudi Pro League is currently on a winter break but will return on February 7 with Al-Ittihad taking on Al-Taee. The rest of the teams in the Saudi top-flight will not be be back in domestic action until the following week.
