<p>McElhenney did his best to inspire those charged with the task of picking up precious points before a ball was kicked, with Wrexham manager Phil Parkinson telling reporters: “I've always said that it's a team effort. The chairman Rob was with us yesterday and did a great talk with the lads about what his feelings were in this situation, and our lads love that.”</p>

<p>The Red Dragons delivered the perfect response to those words of encouragement, with club captain James McClean adding: “Yesterday we had Rob come in and had a good chat with us and that just saying all the outside noise is good and bad, you’ve got to drown it out and just obviously relax. </p><p>“Obviously getting that from the owners, I think it took a lot of pressure off the lads today and you could see it in our play but, look, we’re in a great position but there’s two games to go.”</p>
