<p>The Portuguese international <a href="https://www.goal.com/en-gb/lists/liverpool-forward-diogo-jota-dies-car-accident-spain/blta99cf525214d3de6#csbd9548b8a266029e" target="_blank">passed away on July 3, 2025, at the age of 28</a>. He was involved in a car accident while travelling through the Zamora province of Western Spain. Jota's brother, Andre Silva, also died as a result of the incident. <a href="https://www.goal.com/en-ng/lists/diogo-jota-cause-death-confirmed-tyre-blowout-overtaking-spanish-guardia-civil-statement-accident-liverpool-striker/blt8106f66a7d369a51" target="_blank">The crash was caused by a tyre blowout.</a> </p><p><a href="https://www.goal.com/en-gb/news/diogo-jota-brother-andre-drove-spain-ferry-uk-tragic-deaths-car-accident-liverpool-flying-lung-surgery/blt5132c67d78a846c6" target="_blank">The pair were heading for a ferry port in Santander</a>, for an overnight journey, so Jota could return to pre-season training. He was due to report for duty on Monday. </p>

<p>Mbappe took to his Instagram stories posting a photo of Jota with the message: "Deepest condolences, support, and thoughts are with those involved their family and loved ones. Rest in peace Diogo &amp; Andre."</p><p>Bellingham posted: "Heartbreaking news. Rest in peace Andre and Diogo. Sending love and strength to the family."</p><p>Vinicius Jr.'s message read: "Rest in peace Diogo and his brother Andre Silva! Much strength to the while family!!"</p>
