WHAT HAPPENED?

The former Real Madrid star moved to the Red Devils in 2021 for £41 million ($57m) but he struggled to recapture the form he showed for so many years at Los Blancos. With the centre-back now in the latter stages of his career - which has included a World Cup win, Champions League triumphs and a host of other trophies - he will hope to return to his best and keep Como up in Serie A this season.

After France's World Cup triumph in 2018, Varane - who began his career at Lens before spending a decade at Real Madrid between 2011 and 2021 - received a Legion d'honneur, which is the highest French order of merit.
