Paul Pogba agrees transfer to Champions League club as ex-Man Utd star makes 'significant financial sacrifices' to seal return to football

<p>Pogba is set to join Ligue 1 side Monaco on a free transfer after agreeing a two-year deal with the French side, as reported by <a href="https://www.leparisien.fr/sports/football/ligue-1/mercato-paul-pogba-va-bien-signer-a-monaco-22-06-2025-BTR3XWHAKNGA7NWRJ6IEHRLQ3E.php" target="_blank"><em>Le Parisien</em></a>. The former Manchester United midfielder has "made significant financial sacrifices" to seal the deal as he prepares to return to football for the <a href="https://www.goal.com/en-gb/lists/paul-pogba-juventus-over-french-midfielder-free-agent-contract-termination-heads-miami-train-next-move/blt236ed8ce0c70635c" target="_blank">first time since his contract with Juventus was terminated in 2024</a>.</p>

WHAT HAPPENED?

<p>The transfer means that Pogba will be able to play Champions League football next season. Monaco finished in third place in Ligue 1 in 2024-25, meaning they qualify for next season's tournament. Pogba has not played for almost two years - after being sidelined due to a doping ban - <a href="https://eu-app.contentstack.com/#!/stack/bltcc7a7ffd2fbf71f5/content-type/slide_list/en/entry/bltc37ce0fdc32fed13/edit" target="_blank">but has shown how he's been training hard in recent months</a> in a bid to revive his football career.</p>

<p>Pogba has won the World Cup with France and played for two of the biggest clubs in the world in Manchester United and Juventus, but has never played in Ligue 1 during his senior career. He will now get that chance next season and could soon be joined by <a href="https://www.goal.com/en-gb/lists/monaco-stall-ansu-fati-transfer-salary-barcelona-attacker-future-mystery/bltdca96f6db84505c0" target="_blank">Barcelona star Ansu Fati</a>. Monaco are also hoping to bring the forward to the club in the summer transfer window.</p>
