Barcelona have been hunting after Williams all summer but it now appears unlikely that the Catalan club will be able to get a move over the line. According to <a href="https://barcanewsnetwork.com/nico-williams-is-already-back-in-bilbao-to-decide-his-future-amid-barcelona-interest/?utm_content=cmp-true" target="_blank">SPORT</a>, the Euro 2024-winning winger has re-joined his team-mates in Bilbao a week earlier than expected, suggesting he wants to get on with pre-season training and has no plans to leave. On top of that, Spanish journalist Pedro Morata has <a href="https://x.com/partidazocope/status/1820391055495156138" target="_blank">reported on X</a> that the young winger will continue with the Basque side next season.

As well as disappointing Paris Saint-Germain — who have also been chasing Williams this summer — the news will be a blow to many Barcelona fans, who have been keenly following the speculation amid <a href="https://www.goal.com/en-gb/lists/barcelona-underwhelming-transfer-window-nico-williams-saudi-sales/blt6d2fc639ffb39030" target="_blank">another chaotic transfer window for the Catalan club</a>. As well as potentially missing out on Williams, Barca have also failed to plug the gap in defensive midfield and are chasing Saudi sales to try to bolster their financial situation. According to SPORT's report, Williams' agent, Felix Tainta, has informed PSG that his client will not be going anywhere this summer, barring a significant change of heart. He is expected to remain at San Mames for one more season.
