<p>According to <a href="https://sport.sky.de/transfer/news/34132/13397008/eintracht-frankfurt-lehnt-rekord-angebot-fuer-hugo-ekitike-ab" target="_blank"><em>Sky Sport</em></a>, Newcastle <a href="https://www.goal.com/en-gb/lists/newcastle-hugo-ekitike-blockbuster-bid-in-demand-striker-rival-eintracht-frankfurt/blt1f32f3fa81890928" target="_blank">submitted a written €80 million (£67m/$91m) offer for Ekitike</a> on Tuesday morning. While that figure would break their transfer record, Frankfurt turned it down. The Bundesliga club were not satisfied with the payment structure and are holding out for a higher fee.</p>

WHAT HAPPENED?

<p>Eintracht only signed Ekitike permanently from Paris Saint-Germain six months ago for €16.5m (£14m/$19m). His 22 goals and 12 assists in 48 games last season have made him a top target in Europe. Newcastle’s failed bid shows their intent, but Frankfurt believe they can attract more lucrative offers, possibly from rival suitors.</p>

<p>If the deal had gone through, the French striker would have become the Magpies' most expensive signing ever, beating the €70m (£59m/$80m) they paid for Alexander Isak in 2022.</p>
