<p>Maupay made headlines on Sunday when he <a href="https://www.goal.com/en/lists/neal-maupay-viral-post-everton/blte04d6f79be909254" target="_blank">took to social media to mock his parent club Everton</a> after they suffered a 2-0 home loss against Nottingham Forest in the Premier League. The French striker, who is currently on loan at Marseille, wrote: "Whenever I'm having a bad day I just check the Everton score and smile."</p>

WHAT HAPPENED?

<p>Maupay's remarks led to an extreme reaction from the Toffees fans as they brutally slammed him in the replies to his post on <em>X</em>. Everton, meanwhile, have <a href="https://www.goal.com/en/lists/marseille-loanee-neal-maupay-hot-water-parent-club-everton-after-latest-social-media-dig/blt278826fba3b19a19#cs45f12f4cd47bc7e1" target="_blank">decided to address and deal with the matter "internally and privately"</a>. Former boxing world champion and die-hard Everton fan Tony Bellew has also come out to condemn Maupay's actions, labelling the 28-year-old a 'horrible little weasel'.</p>

<p>Speaking to <a href="https://talksport.com/football/2426555/neal-maupay-trolls-everton-social-media-tony-bellew/" target="_blank"><em>talkSPORT</em></a>, Bellew said: "It's not the nicest thing to be done by a player who is obviously on the payroll. He's a muppet. When Everton are doing okay, you don't hear a murmur out of the little squeak - the weasel. But the minute Everton are losing or underperforming, then the weasel shows up. It's just very, very sad, and he should worry about the team he's actually playing for because while he was at Everton, the last thing he did was play football - he was useless.</p><p>"I just don't understand why he is having a go at his paymasters. Brighton were desperate to get him out; we just didn't know what we were taking, but we've found out he's a little, horrible wind-up merchant, so he is what he is."</p>

<p>Sean Dyche's Everton side will be back in action this Saturday as they take on Bournemouth in the Premier League, before their attention switches to a meeting with Peterborough United in the FA Cup on January 9.</p>
