Mason Greenwood sends out strong message after being overlooked for 2025 Ligue 1 Awards despite prolific 18-goal season with Marseille

<p>The former Manchester United winger, who <a href="https://www.goal.com/en-gb/lists/man-utd-extremely-disappointed-miss-out-100m-mason-greenwood-barcelona-cheap-deal-marseille-forward/bltb0a981377b404c12" target="_blank">moved to Stade Velodrome in the summer of 2024</a>, has enjoyed a productive debut campaign in France. He has <a href="https://www.goal.com/en-gb/lists/mason-greenwood-closing-marseille-goal-history-brace-big-win-montpellier-didier-drogba/blt33b1c5062e8302e2" target="_blank">18 goals to his name, along with four assists</a>.</p>

<p>The 23-year-old’s efforts have helped to <a href="https://www.goal.com/en-gb/lists/frustrating-mason-greenwood-mixed-reviews-french-media-marseille-draw-top-four-lille/blt9b120b95be5c2772" target="_blank">keep Marseille in the hunt for a runners-up finish</a> - behind runaway title winners Paris Saint-Germain - and Champions League qualification. He has <a href="https://www.goal.com/en-gb/lists/video-mason-greenwood-goal-marseille-long-range-strike-ex-man-utd-roberto-de-zerbi-snap-losing-run/blt0916e7e406825a5d" target="_blank">recorded several spectacular strikes this season</a>.</p>

<p>Greenwood has, however, been overlooked on the Ligue 1 Player of the Year shortlist - with no Marseille players being recognised there. That is despite the one-cap England international - who is switching allegiance to Jamaica - being second in the Golden Boot race behind PSG superstar Ousmane Dembele.</p>

<p>Team-mate Geoffrey Kondogbia said of Marseille failing to convince those in charge of compiling nomination lists: “We kind of laughed about it. Quite honestly, I don't know what to say. It's a choice, and we have to respect it. We have our own opinion of our players and our coach, and that's the most important thing. There's no accounting for taste. We would have liked to have been there because it's always a pleasure.”</p>
