According to journalist <a href="https://x.com/FabrizioRomano/status/1813526478975553645" target="_blank">Fabrizio Romano,</a> an <a href="https://www.goal.com/en-gb/lists/mason-greenwood-man-utd-outcast-reaches-agreement-join-marseille-fan-backlash-france/bltccd6dfd851e55712" target="_blank">agreement is in place </a>between all parties for Greenwood to join the Ligue 1 side on a permanent deal. Marseille have booked in a medical for the 22-year-old, who is then expected to sign a five-year deal. Man Utd will receive €30million (£25m/$32.7m) for the young forward.

WHAT HAPPENED?

Greenwood's departure will finally put an end to United's career at Old Trafford and allow him to start a new challenge in France. There has been some opposition to the transfer, with Marseille mayor branding Greenwood a "disgrace" and <a href="https://www.goal.com/en/lists/marseille-mayor-block-unbearable-mason-greenwood-transfer-interest-man-utd-outcast-disgrace/blte14a6a44f10b5b89#cs69a26a2da2f5b3d7" target="_blank">calling on the club not to complete the move</a>. Some supporters have also <a href="https://www.goal.com/en/lists/mason-greenwood-not-welcome-campaign-launched-marseille-fans-man-utd-outcast-permanent-transfer-ligue-1/blt94ad61cceaf8e8d3" target="_blank">voiced their opposition to the move</a>, but manager <a href="https://www.goal.com/en/lists/roberto-de-zerbi-defend-mason-greenwood-man-utd-marseille-transfer-fan-protest/blt1d9c5cabbdcf5763" target="_blank">Roberto De Zerbi has vowed to back Greenwood if he joins his club</a>.

Greenwood made 36 appearances in all competitions for Getafe last season, scoring 10 goals and recording six assists. He impressed despite the controversy surrounding him and drew interest from Lazio as well as Marseille this summer.
