<p>On Friday, Gomes formally <a href="https://www.goal.com/en/lists/angel-gomes-snubs-manchester-united-arsenal-england-international-roberto-de-zerbi-marseille-three-year-deal/bltd7ce8837ec0cdec9#csaf8fad29caa5b600" target="_blank">completed his move to Marseille as he penned a three-year deal</a> that will be valid until the summer of 2023. The 24-year-old left his boyhood club United in 2020 to join Lille. He was immediately sent out on loan to Boavista, where the player spent a season before heading back to his parent club. WHAT HAPPENED?

<p>The former Red Devils academy star reportedly <a href="https://www.goal.com/en/lists/blow-man-utd-arsenal-mason-greenwood-marseille-make-transfer-move-england-star-angel-gomes/blt2d3637a06eac0fa0" target="_blank">attracted interest from several English clubs</a>. Other than United and the Gunners, Tottenham Hotspur and West Ham were also keen on signing the midfielder. He refused to head back to his native and decided to continue to ply his trade in France. </p>

THE BIGGER PICTURE

<p>Gomes' 2024-25 campaign was disrupted by injuries, limiting him to just 20 total appearances and only 10 starts in Ligue 1. Despite those setbacks, his overall contribution to the club remains notable, tallying 10 goals and 19 assists in 134 matches.</p>

Former Manchester United midfielder Angel Gomes has left Lille after five seasons to join Ligue 1 Marseille on a three-year deal. At Marseille, Gomes will reunite with former Old Trafford colleague Mason Greenwood. The England international reportedly had offers from Premier League Arsenal and United, however, he opted to stay in France instead of heading back to his homeland.
