It’s official, Man Utd want Viktor Gyokeres! Initial talks held with Sporting CP as Ruben Amorim eyes summer reunion with Sweden star - but Man City also step up efforts to sign 26-year-old

<p>Per <a href="https://x.com/Plettigoal/status/1863678107837972551" target="_blank">Florian Plettenberg</a>, United have initiated talks with Sporting over a deal to sign Gyokeres. The 26-year-old has been in incredible form for the Portuguese club this season, scoring 24 goals in 21 games, as he reached a new level under the now-United boss Ruben Amorim.</p><p></p><p></p>

WHAT HAPPENED?

<p>According to the report, however, United will have to raise funds if they want to do a deal for Gyokeres, and they also face competition from Manchester City. Pep Guardiola's side lost 4-1 to Sporting in the Champions League earlier this season, with <a href="https://www.goal.com/en-gb/lists/man-city-player-ratings-vs-sporting-cp-erling-haaland-phil-foden-viktor-gyokeres/blt8172f07d97e77c94" target="_blank">Gyokeres scoring a hat-trick</a>.</p>

<p>The Sweden international has played in England before, representing Coventry City 116 times, and scoring 43 goals. He also played eight times for Brighton, scoring once.</p>
