United have been plagued by injuries all season, particularly in defence, and encountered more problems on Saturday at Brentford. Varane had to go off at half-time <a href="https://www.goal.com/en-gb/lists/man-utd-player-ratings-v-brentford-mason-mount-andre-onana/blt2bbc05a6b975103e" target="_blank">at the Gtech Community Stadium in the 1-1 draw</a>, while centre-back partner Lindelof was also substituted in the second half due to a knock. Harry Maguire and Lisandro Martinez, who is only just back himself, replaced the duo.

WHAT HAPPENED?

United will be sweating on Varane's fitness ahead of key Premier League games against Chelsea and Liverpool. The Red Devils are already without Jonny Evans, Luke Shaw and Tyrell Malacia due to injury, while Martinez has also spent the majority of the season sidelined.

The French defender told the <a href="https://twitter.com/stevenrailston/status/1774202685865988440?s=46&amp;t=1bv_fUQLg8fZmRCOA-Wqtg" target="_blank">Manchester Evening News</a> that injury was "not too bad" which will be a relief for the Red Devils.

WHAT VARANE SAID

Varane's injury also comes at a time when his future at the club is uncertain. The defender's contract is up at the end of the season and it's not certain yet if a <a href="https://www.goal.com/en/lists/man-utd-true-stance-on-offering-anthony-martial-and-raphael-varane-new-contracts/bltfa0a06bda679055e" target="_blank">new deal will be offered to the 30-year-old</a>. Varane has also <a href="https://www.goal.com/en/lists/cristiano-ronaldo-reunion-raphael-varane-mega-deal-saudi-pro-league-al-nassr-man-utd/bltb799236e1494a543#cs567dcecd0bd34b07" target="_blank">reportedly attracted interest from Cristiano Ronaldo's Al-Nassr</a>.
