If he were to return to his homeland, then another entry in the record books would fall within reach. He is currently 47 efforts short of <a href="https://www.goal.com/en-gb/news/premier-league-all-time-top-scorers-shearer-rooney-players-over-100-goals/blt7f97152540e0efce" target="_blank">Alan Shearer’s all-time high of 260 Premier League strikes</a>.</p>

<p>Shearer would be happy to see his achievements eclipsed if <a href="https://www.goal.com/en-gb/lists/why-harry-kane-never-return-tottenham-ex-spurs-team-mate-prefer-changing-sport-nfl-moving-america/blt468cfb78b395b236" target="_blank">Kane were to take on the challenge of chasing him down</a>, with a move to Anfield – as Liverpool close in on title glory this season – making a lot of sense to all concerned.</p>
