<p>England will be among the favourites to win this summer's European Championship, with the Lionesses set to be the defending champions in Switzerland. Since winning the tournament back in 2022, <a href="https://www.goal.com/en/news/football-came-home-wiegman-and-england-s-lionesses-win-the-women-s-euros-and-become-immortal-at-wembley/blt03e1306009078090" target="_blank">beating Germany in extra-time at Wembley</a>, Sarina Wiegman's side have continued to establish themselves as one of the world's best, reaching a first Women's World Cup final in 2023.</p><p>While some have moved on, many of the names from those two historic summers remain in the frame in 2025, with the likes of Mary Earps, Leah Williamson and Ella Toone among those expected to be on the plane in June. Lionesses Euro 2025 squad: Who will England boss Sarina Wiegman take to Switzerland?

<p><a href="https://www.goal.com/en/lists/mary-earps-hannah-hampton-england-no1-psg-chelsea-lionesses-euro-2025/blt607e087cdf73a7a5" target="_blank">Mary Earps and Hannah Hampton are locked into a fierce battle to be England's No. goalkeeper ahead of the Euros</a>, with it neck-and-neck as we approach the Lionesses' first fixtures of 2025.</p><p>It's also unclear who will be the third goalkeeper backing them up. Ellie Roebuck had been a stalwart in the England set-up <a href="https://www.goal.com/en/lists/lionesses-goalkeeper-ellie-roebuck-stroke-changed-perception-man-city-star-england-ambition/blt0559f75b912cb021" target="_blank">until suffering a type of stroke last season</a> and receiving no game time at Manchester City. She hasn't been called up by Wiegman since October 2023. However, the shot-stopper signed for Barcelona in the summer <a href="https://www.goal.com/en/lists/lionesses-ellie-roebuck-comeback-stroke-19-months-barcelona-debut/bltf5ba7d6f5f1a1962" target="_blank">and is starting to play again</a>, so could be in the mix.</p><p>In her absence, Orlando Pride goalkeeper Anna Moorhouse has been included regularly, with Khiara Keating, Lucy Thomas and Kayla Rendell all also receiving call-ups. GOALKEEPERS

<p>England have a significant injury concern in defence, <a href="https://www.goal.com/en/lists/man-city-injury-update-alex-greenwood-lionesses-joins-lauren-hemp-vivianne-miedema-khadija-shaw-absentees/bltc1054c0aa71676bc" target="_blank">as Alex Greenwood had knee surgery back in December</a>. That setback came just a month after Wiegman appeared to be onto something at left-back, <a href="https://www.goal.com/en/lists/six-problems-sarina-wiegman-solve-lionesses-euros-defence/blt60a8d0553a2a772f" target="_blank">using her and Jess Carter in a fluid manner to cover the lack of depth in that area</a>. However, she needs Greenwood back to full fitness in order to look at this potential solution more before the Euros.</p><p>Carter is another option there, as is Niamh Charles, who isn't a natural left-back but plays there at Chelsea and often for England, and Gabby George, who returned to the England squad for the first time in two years back in November. <a href="https://www.goal.com/en/lists/rachel-daly-shock-england-retirement-lionesses-no9-conundrum/blt6472f2acbc8e5656" target="_blank">Rachel Daly, who started at left-back at both Euro 2022 and the World Cup in 2023, retired from international football in April 2024</a>.</p><p>Greenwood and Carter both play at centre-back for their clubs and represent two of the many options for England in that area, alongside Leah Williamson, Millie Bright, Lotte Wubben-Moy, Esme Morgan, Maya Le Tissier and Millie Turner. Lucy Parker has also had some recent call-ups, but is yet to be capped.</p><p>Le Tissier, though, could well be used to provide cover for Lucy Bronze at right-back. DEFENDERS

<p>England's greatest injury concern is in midfield, <a href="https://www.goal.com/en/lists/georgia-stanway-s-euro-2025-participation-thrown-into-doubt-as-lionesses-and-bayern-munich-star-undergoes-surgery-after-horror-injury-blow-in-training/blt54ab381f46e80ad3" target="_blank">after Georgia Stanway underwent knee surgery in late January</a>. Bayern Munich expect the 26-year-old to be out for several months, with it unclear if she will be able to return to action before the end of the season or be fit for the European Championship. That gives Wiegman a real problem, as the Lionesses lack depth in the deeper midfield roles.</p><p>That's not the case in front of that base pairing of Keira Walsh and Stanway, with England having an incredible number of options in the No.10 role. Ella Toone, Grace Clinton, Jess Park, Fran Kirby and Laura Blindkilde Brown are all battling for game time there, with Lauren James also playing centrally in the past. Blindkilde Brown can play deeper, <a href="https://www.goal.com/en/lists/england-women-player-ratings-switzerland-grace-clinton-ruby-mace-lionesses-sarina-wiegman/blt8bc7e057a8de975b" target="_blank">though she only made her Lionesses debut in December</a>.</p><p>Ruby Mace, a promising holding midfielder at Leicester, won her first cap in that same game and <a href="https://www.goal.com/en/lists/grace-clinton-england-euro-2025-lionesses-winners-losers-friendlies-chloe-kelly/blt02f6d56bf73e3e97" target="_blank">could back-up Walsh if she impresses Wiegman in the next few months</a>. Katie Zelem held that understudy role at the 2023 Women's World Cup, but does not appear to be in England's plans right now. MIDFIELDERS

<p><a href="https://www.goal.com/en/en/lists/man-city-lionesses-lauren-hemp-surgery-knee-wsl-title/bltf228f0152bbcddb3" target="_blank">Lauren Hemp's knee injury and resulting surgery</a> causes a problem for England in the forward areas, though she was the first of the Lionesses' unlucky trio to suffer the setback, in November, and so could be the first to return. Wiegman will certainly hope so, as she was in incredible form before the blow.</p><p>Meanwhile, other wingers such as Beth Mead and Chloe Kelly will be keen to show improved performances before the Euros. Mead did catch the eye with a sublime assist for Stina Blackstenius in Arsenal's recent win over Man City, reminding all of her quality, while Kelly will be looking to get minutes with the Gunners <a href="https://www.goal.com/en/lists/chloe-kelly-joins-arsenal-lionesses-leaves-man-city-completes-loan-move-gunners/bltda4083ce4c921628" target="_blank">after leaving City on loan on deadline day</a>, following a lack of opportunities. Lauren James is also out to build up momentum, having just recently returned from a spell on the sidelines.</p><p>Jessica Naz and Aggie Beever-Jones are two young players who often operate wide at club level and have had England call-ups in recent months, though both can also offer necessary depth at centre-forward, behind Alessia Russo. Naz has been used centrally by Wiegman on a few occasions now, while Beever-Jones plays there more regularly for Chelsea than the Tottenham starlet.</p><p>There are other strikers England could call upon if they wanted a more proven and experienced option in the squad, such as Beth England and Nikita Parris. FORWARDS

<p>Though Wiegman has looked at the 3-5-2 set-up again recently, a 4-3-3 system would still be more likely for England at this moment.</p><p>It's a tight call in between the sticks, though <strong>Earps</strong> appears to be leading that race to be No.1 at the moment. <strong>Williamson</strong> and <strong>Bright</strong> are the likely centre-back pairing in front of her right now. At right-back will be <strong>Bronze</strong>, with the left-back spot certainly up for grabs. <strong>Charles</strong> is probably the front-runner at the moment, unless Greenwood's return allows Wiegman to resume the experiment with her and Carter in that area.</p><p><strong>Walsh</strong> will be at the base of midfield, with it extremely unclear who will take Stanway's place if she is unfit. <strong>Clinton</strong> has played that deeper role for England before and could be called upon. There is then a real battle to be the No.10, with Wiegman clearly impressed by <strong>Park</strong> in recent camps.</p><p><strong>Mead</strong> and <strong>Hemp</strong> would be expected to be the first choice wingers, if indeed the latter returns well, while <strong>Russo</strong> is nailed on to lead the line.</p><p><em>England XI (4-3-3)</em>: Earps; Bronze, Williamson, Bright, Charles; Walsh, Clinton, Park; Mead, Russo, Hemp.</p>

EXPECTED XI

<p>The good news for England right now is that there are no players ruled out of this summer's European Championships.
