<p>Coinciding with their 65th anniversary, Tigres will reportedly have a new stadium with a capacity of 55,000 spectators, making it slightly larger than the BBVA Stadium of Rayados, which holds 53,500. </p><p>According to Diario Récord, it's just a matter of paperwork for the government to approve the project and construction of the new stadium, which is expected to begin this year. </p><p>The new home of Tigres will be built where the current stadium's parking lot is located. In fact, while the construction is underway, fans attending matches at the Universitario will need to use the baseball stadium’s parking lot. Once the construction is completed, the old stadium will be demolished.</p>

WHAT HAPPENED?

<p>Although the project was announced in 2022, there have been delays in its execution. Initially, the construction was expected to begin in 2023, with an opening scheduled for 2025.</p><p>Despite these delays, the authorities and club executives remain committed to the project, aiming to make the new stadium a reality in the coming years. The project was presented as a collaboration between the state government, the Universidad Autónoma de Nuevo León (UANL), and the private sector, with an estimated cost of $320 million.</p>

THE BIGGER PICTURE

<p>The Estadio Universitario of Tigres, also known as "El Volcán," was inaugurated on Aug. 31, 1967. Since then, it has been the home of Tigres UANL.</p><p>Tigres has won several league championships at Estadio Universitario. To date, they have won eight Liga MX titles in that stadium, corresponding to the tournaments Invierno 1978, 1981-82, Apertura 2011, Apertura 2015, Apertura 2016, Apertura 2017, Clausura 2019 and Clausura 2023.</p><p>It has also hosted other titles, such as the Copa MX, making "El Volcán" a historic venue for the club.</p>

<p>The team coached by Guido Pizarro is in third place in the Clausura 2025 with 25 points. On Saturday they will aim for their ninth victory of the year when they visit América in Matchday 13 of the tournament.</p>
