WHAT HAPPENED?

<p>Leicester's drop to the second tier marks their second relegation in just three seasons. From conquering the league in 2016 and claiming the FA Cup in 2021, they now find themselves oscillating between top-flight hope and Championship reality. They return to the second tier having won only four of their 33 matches.</p>

<p>The decision to bring in Ruud van Nistelrooy midway through the season has come under heavy scrutiny. The Dutchman was appointed following the dismissal of Steve Cooper, a change that was intended to reverse the club’s fortunes. Instead, it contributed to their downward spiral. Under Cooper, Leicester had a difficult start but managed to remain above the relegation line for the most part. Van Nistelrooy’s tenure, however, quickly dragged them into trouble. His short time at the helm has yielded just two victories in the Premier League, with wins coming against Tottenham and West Ham. However, these rare high points were surrounded by consistent defeats, resulting in a staggering losing rate of close to 80 per cent in the league.</p>
