<p>Italy and Juventus legend Giorgio Chiellini has extended his LAFC career, joining the ownership group of the Southern California club, <a href="https://www.lafc.com/news/italian-football-legend-giorgio-chiellini-joins-lafc-ownership-group" target="_blank">they announced Tuesday afternoon</a>. The former defender, who played a key role in the club’s success during his time on the field, has been with the organization since 2022 - the year they won the cup. He later joined the backroom staff before stepping into his current role.

WHAT HAPPENED?

<p>Chiellini opted to stay with LAFC after <a href="https://www.goal.com/en-us/lists/lafc-giorgio-chiellini-to-retire-after-mls-cup-final-defeat-colombus-crew-italy-juventus-boardroom-role/blta35c3283c6003abf" target="_blank">hanging up his boots in December 2023</a>, taking on a role as a Player Development Coach during the 2024 campaign. He made 45 appearances, including 38 starts, in his final 18 months as a professional.</p>

<p>The Italian defender <a href="https://www.lafc.com/news/italian-football-legend-giorgio-chiellini-joins-lafc-ownership-group" target="_blank">expressed his excitement</a> to be part of the LAFC ownership group. </p><p>"Joining the LAFC ownership group is a great honor for me. When I arrived here three years ago as a player, I immediately felt that there was something special about this club," he said in a statement. "It is an ambitious organization, built by extraordinary people and supported by a community that truly makes you feel at home. That is why, last year, I expressed my desire to become an owner, and now I’m proud to continue this journey and give my support to a project I deeply believe in."</p>

WHAT CHIELLINI SAID

<p>LAFC have rebounded from a slow start and now find themselves seventh in the Western Conference. Their next fixture is against the Colorado Rapids Wednesday night.</p>
