<p>Russo took a knock to her ankle and was forced to leave the pitch in the 73rd minute in <a href="https://www.goal.com/en/lists/england-women-player-ratings-belgium-lucy-bronze-beth-mead-combo-lionesses-propel-sarina-wiegman-top-spot-nations-league-group/bltcda624f0c506f0df" target="_blank">England's 5-0 demolition of Belgium in the Women's Nations League</a> clash on Friday. The Gunners' forward has left the Lionesses squad as manager Sarina Wiegman has called up 19-year-old uncapped Brighton sensation Agyemang as her cover.</p>

WHAT HAPPENED?

<p>The <a href="https://www.englandfootball.com/articles/2025/Mar/31/england-womens-squad-updates-april-2025-international-window" target="_blank">official statement</a> from the England football team read: "Michelle Agyemang has joined the England senior women’s squad for the first time. Agyemang, part of the WU19s squad who have successfully qualified for this summer’s EURO in Poland with a game to spare, replaces Alessia Russo. Russo has returned to Arsenal for further assessment on an injury sustained in the Lionesses’ 5-0 win against Belgium in Bristol on Friday. The 24-player squad depart St. George’s Park today as they prepare for Tuesday’s return fixture against the Red Flames in Leuven."</p>

<p>Russo's injury news comes only a day after <a href="https://www.goal.com/en/lists/didnt-take-any-risks-lionesses-lauren-james-withdrawn-belgium-victory-hamstring-issue-england-boss-sarina-wiegman-confirms/blt2c25c415cb49523d" target="_blank">Chelsea star Lauren James pulled out of the squad due to a hamstring problem</a>, which limited her game time in the clash against Belgium. Tottenham's Jessica Naz has replaced James in the team.</p>
