Andres Iniesta made his Barcelona debut in a competition he would go on to win four times, the Champions League. With Louis van Gaal as coach in 2002-03, the midfielder was handed his Barca bow in a group game away to FC Brugge and played the 90 full minutes in a 1-0 win, with Juan Roman Riquelme scoring the game's only goal. A star was born.

Iniesta has admitted on many occasions that being left on the bench for the 2006 Champions League final against Arsenal in Paris was one of the most difficult moments of his career. "I was furious, my blood was boiling," he said later. Nevertheless, with Barca a goal down, he came off the bench to change the game and the Blaugrana won 2-1. "If you hadn't come on," Samuel Eto'o said on Sunday, "Barca would have one European Cup less."

Iniesta is known not as a prolific scorer but as a scorer of important goals, and there are not many more important than his strike away to Chelsea in the 2008-09 Champions League semi-finals. Barcelona were on the verge of elimination when the midfielder popped up with an injury-time strike from the edge of the box to send the Catalans through on away goals. A historic treble followed, and then a sextet too, but none of it would have been possible without Iniesta's immaculate intervention.

Many of Iniesta's most memorable moments came in the Clasico and even though he did not score against Real Madrid in the 5-0 win in November 2010, it is the match in which perhaps the Blaugrana were at their peak under Pep Guardiola. Alongside Xavi and Sergio Busquets, Iniesta put on a midfield masterclass in a performance and a result which will be remembered by generations of fans watching at Camp Nou and around the world.

Levante have been a significant side in Iniesta's career. The midfielder scored his first-ever Barca goal against the Valencia-based club and also played his final away match for Barca against them last weekend. But it was his hat-trick of assists in 2012 which will live long in the memory, the midfielder starring in a 4-0 win at the Ciutat de Valencia as Tito Vilanova's side played for around an hour with 11 La Masia players on the pitch. Barca went on to win La Liga with a joint-record total of 100 points.

"You're back!" one reporter told Andres Iniesta after a typically superb showing in the second half of the 2014-15 season. "Back? I've never been away!" the midfielder replied. And he saved perhaps his best performance of the campaign until last as he won Man of the Match in the 2015 Champions League final win over Juventus (3-1) in Berlin to complete a historic treble for Luis Enrique's side, his second for the Catalan club after the clean sweep under Pep Guardiola in 2008-09.

When Pep Guardiola arrived as coach in 2008, Ronaldinho and Deco left the club and Andres Iniesta became one of the club captains, after Carles Puyol, Xavi and Victor Valdes. All of those three were gone by the summer of 2015, though, with Xavi moving to Qatar after helping Barca win the treble, allowing Iniesta to become club captain. Since then, he has lifted two Liga titles, a UEFA Super Cup, a Spanish Supercopa, a Club World Cup and three Copas del Rey. More than that, though, he has been an example to everyone.

<p>Iniesta scored with a superb strike, blasting home a right-footed shot into the top corner after he was set up by a Neymar back-heel. That was the third goal in a memorable 4-0 win for Luis Enrique's side and Andres (who also assisted one of the goals that night) was given a standing ovation from the Madrid fans after he was substituted in the 77th minute. Diego Maradona and Ronaldinho were the only previous Barca players to be afforded that honour at the Bernabeu.</p>

Iniesta had yet to announce his departure as Barcelona faced Sevilla in the final of the Copa del Rey in April, but the expression on his face said it all. Given a standing ovation after what was his finest performance of the season, which included a superb goal, the midfielder was in tears on the bench in the final few minutes, but came back on to lift the trophy, his 32nd and last in an astonishing career for the Catalan club.

Having announced his summer exit in an emotional press conference, Iniesta will make his final appearance for Barcelona in the Catalans' La Liga clash at home to Real Sociedad on Sunday. The midfielder also took centre stage at a special event at Camp Nou on Friday as illustrious team-mates from the past and sporting figures paid tribute to the Spain star, along with family and friends. Barca branded the event and his farewell as "infinite Iniesta" and that pretty much sums up his impact on the game for club and country over the years. As he heads to Asia for the final chapter in his career, he will be badly missed at Barca.
