<p>The USMNT star opened the scoring in the contest by winning and scoring a penalty in the 35th minute. He was released on a brilliant through-ball before being taken down by the Rouen goalkeeper. Balogun then stepped up and slotted home from the spot. It was his first start for the French side since suffering an adductor injury, and his first goal since November for his club.</p><p>However, Balogun ultimately went from hero to villain, as he missed a crucial spot-kick in a penalty shootout after the two teams ended regulation at 1-1.</p>

<p>It was an incredibly poor performance from the French heavyweights. The weather played a role, with a constant stream of rain all evening, but they lacked clinical finishing and composure all evening. It was a heroic performance from the third-tier side, though, who dominated both possession and the tempo for the majority of the match.</p><p>As for Balogun, he struggled to integrate himself into the match, but did come up with the crucial moment to see them onto the scoreboard in regulation.
