Wirtz's new contract is likely to be valid until 2028 and the player could receive a significant hike in his wages and cross the €10 million (£8m/$11m) per season mark.</p>

<p>Wirtz has been in demand after playing a starring role for Leverkusen and helping Xabi Alonso's side win their historic Bundesliga title last season.
