The official job ad for the role asks the obvious, like the highest level of coaching qualifications and a "strong track record" in either the Premier League or other leading competitions. But it also specifies a need to be resilient under the "intense public scrutiny" that comes hand in hand with the position.

Other rumoured names include Mauricio Pochettino, Thomas Tuchel, Ange Postecoglou and current Under-21 coach Lee Carsley. In their <a href="https://careers.thefa.com/jobs/vacancy/england-mens-senior-team-head-coach-nfcsgp0377-national-football-centre-st-georges-park/2137/description/" target="_self">job advert,</a> the FA said that the successful candidate will:<ul><li>Will hold a UEFA Pro License.</li><li>Will have significant experience of English football, with a strong track record delivering results in the Premier League and/or leading international competitions.</li><li>Will be an exceptional leader who understands and will enjoy the international football environment.</li><li>Will be experienced in successfully identifying, managing and developing English qualified players.</li><li>Will be highly resilient and comfortable in a very high-profile role with intense public scrutiny.</li><li>Will have a track record of creating a high performing, positive team culture and environment.</li><li>Will have strong personal values and integrity and understand and embrace the role that the England Men's Senior Team Head Coach has inspiring the nation.</li></ul>

WHAT THE FA SAID

By the time of his resignation, Southgate was reported to be earning around £5 million ($6.5m) per year. That was more than Sven-Goran Eriksson was paid in the role more than a decade earlier, but less than Fabio Capello's record £6m salary. For reference, Guardiola is estimated to be getting a shade under £20m ($25.8m) each season at Manchester City.
