The Blues initially had their eyes set on <a href="https://www.goal.com/en-gb/lists/next-chelsea-boss-thomas-tuchel-kieran-mckenna-sebastian-hoeness-10-candidates-replace-mauricio-pochettino/blt32d694b877c1ab00" target="_blank">Ipswich Town boss Kieran McKenna and Brentford's Thomas Frank,</a> among others. As it turns out, Maresca has now revealed that he had contact with a Premier League team right before finalising a move to the west London club.

Speaking to the media, Maresca revealed another 'important club' tried to sign him, he said: "They asked me, ‘Do we still have time or is it too late?’ But by then I was already taking my decision."

WHAT MARESCA SAID

Chelsea have scheduled a string of of friendlies this summer as they hope to have a much better start in the Premier League than they did last season. Maresca has led the Blues into three warm-up matches so far, with three more games left to negotiate before the start of the Premier League season.
