<p>McGregor caused a stir after posing with the FAI Cup in the wake of Drogheda United's win and sharing images of the trophy on social media, as per <a href="https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/articles/clyvk8ml8k1o" target="_blank"><em>BBC Sport</em></a>. The disgraced MMA athlete's cousin Warren Davis brought the trophy to a pub, and McGregor went on to hint at a possible takeover of the club by adding the caption: "How much is it to buy a league of Ireland team? WHAT HAPPENED?

<p>McGregor's social media activity has not gone down well with Drogheda United, who were quick to distance themselves from the 36-year-old with an official statement. In November, the UFC star was found liable for assault in a civil rape case by an Irish jury and ordered to pay €248,000 (£206,000).</p>

THE BIGGER PICTURE

<p>A statement from the League of Ireland Premier Division club read: "Those pictured are a close relation to one of our first team players, who like all the other players had custody of the cup to celebrate with their families at different intervals. Drogheda United do not associate ourselves with the individual who made the social media post in any way, or with any unauthorised brands mentioned."</p>

WHAT THE CLUB SAID

<p>Drogheda's celebrations are likely to continue for some time. The FAI Cup is the club's first major trophy since 2007 and it's only the second time in their history they have won the cup.</p>
