Disgraced Barcelona star Dani Alves hands back €150k to Neymar's father after being released on bail

<p>The former Brazil and Barcelona defender has paid Neymar's father back the money he was given to help with his defence against a sexual assault charge. Ines Guardiola, Alves' attorney, told the French news agency AFP  that Alves returned the money last week after he was <a href="https://www.goal.com/en-gb/lists/dani-alves-released-from-jail-finally-paying-eur1m-bail-following-rape-conviction-ex-wife-claims-former-barcelona-defender-dead-to-her/blt3d2d4ca946328b8a" target="_blank">released from prison on bail</a>, as reported by ESPN.</p>

WHAT HAPPENED?

<p>Alves was found guilty of sexually assaulting a woman in a Barcelona nightclub in 2022 in February. The Brazil star was handed a <a href="https://www.goal.com/en-gb/lists/former-barcelona-star-dani-alves-sentenced-four-years-jail-after-being-found-guilty-of-sexual-assault/blt072303227d66cc51" target="_blank">four-and-a-half year prison sentence for his crime</a> but left prison last week after he posted €1 million ($1.08m) bail payment as he awaits the result of his appeal. It had earlier been reported that Neymar Sr. was going to pay the full bond of €1 million <a href="https://www.goal.com/en-gb/lists/neymar-s-father-pay-barcelona-dani-alves-eur1-million-bail/bltcf77bd8ae4b383db" target="_blank">but this claim was dismissed by the 59-year-old</a>.</p>

While out on bail, <a href="https://www.goal.com/en-gb/lists/disgraced-ex-barcelona-star-dani-alves-reconnect-model-wife-joana-sanz-released-prison-bail-matching-tattoos/bltf274f9678068a063" target="_blank">Alves has reportedly reconnected with his estranged wife</a>, who left the Brazilian after his initial arrest. He was also seen <a href="https://www.goal.com/en-gb/lists/disgraced-ex-barcelona-star-dani-alves-spotted-partying-5am-villa-day-release-prison-bail/blt5644d9272868d6a6" target="_blank">throwing an extravagant party at his home</a> the night of his release from prison.</p>
